We like sustainability here at BlueMere Books.
We’re getting greener every step of the way while still providing you with the quality products you deserve.
Around 85% of all textiles produced by the fashion industry end up in landfills, making it a major contributor to environmental damage. What’s more, one in every five items produced by the fashion industry reaches landfills without being worn even once.
As BlueMere Books works with on-demand suppliers, we don’t produce items unless we get an orders for them. This avoids texttile waste from overproduction.
Our printing partner’s high-quality printing tech creates almost no wastewaters and uses less energy than standard industry printers.
We have purposefully kept this website as small as possible.
According to websitecarbon.com, the internet uses more electricity than the entire United Kingdom. The data centres, networks, and the devices we use have the same emissions as the aviation industry.
Siteground, our host, is commited to reducing its impact.
We’re currently using about 0.38g of CO2 per view. That’s 45.13 kg per year, or 118 kW of electricity per year.
We’re actively working to get it even lower.
Each product you see in our catalog is made on-demand – once you place an order, we produce it specifically for you. This allows us to avoid overproduction and textile waste, and we’re continuously working toward greener production.
Our clothing and accessory designs are fulfilled using various methods.
Many of our products are printed with the direct-to-garment (DTG) technique, where ink is sprayed directly onto the garment, and soaks into the fabric.
It’s like printing on paper, but with clothing. We use Kornit printers that generate almost zero wastewater and use less energy than standard industry printers, which lowers our carbon footprint.
We use Oeko-Tex™ certified, vegan, water-based inks which are free of harmful chemicals. BlueMere Books takes sustainability seriously, and our suppliers do too – they take care to properly dispose of any left-over inks according to the ink supplier guidelines.
We use Oeko-Tex™ certified embroidery threads, meaning they’re safe for both adult and children’s clothing. Compared to printing, embroidery is generally more durable and produces less environmental waste.
There are lots of reasons why a product or material might be considered sustainable, but at BlueMere Books our textile collection consists of items made of at least 70% organic or recycled materials, or a mix of these materials.
All our products are made-on-demand; we don’t make them until you place an order.
This means delivery takes a little longer than mass-market stores, but it also means we avoid overproduction and waste, as well as taking care of the planet and you.
